FASHION: Nike’s LUCHA LIBRE shoes

Nike Air Force 1 Lucha Libre Edition-Part of the Wrestling Pack releasing October 2006.  The Lucha Libre Air Force Ones were designed by Xghetto666 from the group of artists known as team the Da-Flow, talent from Mexico City.

The shoe is inspired by one of the greatest Luchadores of all times… Dos Caras.  Family of Mil Mascaras and Sicodelico, some of the greatest luchadors in the world.  Dos Caras, the artist says, represents the duality of life, being good and bad (Tecnico or Rudo) life and death, man and woman, day and night, the power of having the possibility to have 2 personalities at the same time, having the liberty to fly like an eagle controlling the skies and the land, hence the Nahuatl Aztec symbols of the eagle warrior.

ART: Lucha Key Caps

Open the luchadoor! Express your keys the LUCHA way.  These heavy-duty vinyl Lucha Libre keycaps give your keys the fighting chance they need to unlock!  The mascaras (masks) depicted in these images are very reminiscent of Blue Demon and Solar.  I doubt that’d be comfortable hanging around in keyring your pocket but rather IN the ring!  Previously available at Urban Outfitters, now available at Hot Topic and Amazon.

LuchamaniaUSA Semi-Final Pics

Just in time for tonight, here are the Semi Final Pics from LuchamaniaUSA.  More coming soon!

San Antonio Musician Music Leads Double Life.

San Antonio based musician Ernest Gonzales music is dreamy, sensitive, and lets face it, kinda hipsterish and girlie (not that there is anything wrong with that, some of the staff here at Lucha Lords are pseudo hipsters and pseudo girls). His album, “Been Meaning to Tell You”, emotional beats are very cinematic and for lack of flowery speech, is really-really-good.  But, to the Lucha Lords, the most interesting thing about Ernest Gonzales is the fact that his music has two identities.

In true Lucha Libe spirit, Ernest Gonzales invented Mexicans with Guns.  Seen below wearing a Mistico mask,
Ernest spins some of the craziest music one can hear.  The contrast between his music stylings is the equivalent to having a boss/day-job during the week and on the weekends putting on a mask getting in the ring and unleashing your true inner-self.   In a recent LA Times interview he said, “I started to really crave making some hard, uptempo, aggressive beats”.  Well he did, and in true Lucha Libre fashion, mask and all.

Luchador Villan Attacks Jessica Alba in new Machete Movie

The acculturation of Lucha Libre into American society continues.  The new trailer from Robert Rodriguez’s new film, Machete features some sort of luchador-bad-guy (technically a rudo).  At this time we know very little about this mysterious “lucha assassin”.  All we can tell is that he is wearing a Dr Wagner Jr. mask and that he is getting his ass kicked by Jessica Alba and her red high heel shoes.  When we find out more we will let you know.  In the mean time, check out these screen shots form the movie trailer.  Click on them and they will expand.

Lucha Lords at Inner-City Arts Summer on 7th Fundraiser

On July 31st 2010, the Lucha Lords made a special appearance at the Inner-City Arts “Summer on 7th” fundraiser in downtown Los Angeles.  Inner-City Arts is a non-profit organization that reaches out to kids in some of the less fortunate areas of Los Angeles and gives them the opportunity to succeed academically and personally through music, the arts, and technology.

At Lucha Lords, we strive to combine Lucha Libre into every facet of art & culture; so for this event we called up our good friends at APHIDoIDEA for a helping hand and they came up with a “Interactive Lucha Exhibit”.  The exhibit was a mixture of architecture, video, and direct interaction with authentic L.A. luchadores.

We would like to thank everyone at Inner-City Arts for the great time we had at Summer on 7th.  The Lucha Lords and the designers at APHIDoIDEA had a blast.   We can’t wait till next year.

Check out the galleries below to see pics from the event.
